Emirati children’s author met with readers at Russian International School in Dubai
Dubai, UAE. April 22, 2022: On the eve of two big events — the International Book Day, celebrated worldwide every year on April 23, and the prestigious Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which will be held in the capital of the UAE from 23 to 26 May 2022, the third presentation of the book by the Emirati writer Al-Yazia Khalifa «The Mango Tree» in Russian took place in Dubai.
Job for Arabists, at the invitation of the management of the Russian International School in Dubai, where more than 300 children from Russia and the CIS countries study, organized the presentation of the book «The Mango Tree» in Russian with the participation of its author — the Emirati children’s author Al-Yazia Khalifa, translator of the book from Arabic Vyacheslav Eliseev, founder and CEO of Job for Arabists, and Anastasia Ivanova, Director of the Translation Bureau «Arabist».
Do we need to say that the audience at the presentation came up with the most grateful and lively interest in everything in the world! For almost two hours, students from 4th to 7th grades, more than 50 people in all, as well as teachers and school director Marina Borisovna Khalikova listened with pleasure to the story of the book’s creation, its translation into Russian and, finally, its release in the largest Russian publishing house «Eksmo» in partnership with the Emirati publishing house Al-Yazia Khalifa Al Fulk Translation & Publishing and Job for Arabists. Live communication went at once in three languages — Russian, English and Arabic and, it seems, no one experienced any difficulties or language barriers.
«I really wanted to introduce the book to my direct readers — the children of the UAE, tell them how I felt writing it and immerse them in the world of my childhood in my home country of the United Arab Emirates,» said Al-Yazia Khalifa, author of The Mango Tree. «It struck me how much interest the students of the Russian school in Dubai listened to the fragments of the book, what questions they asked me, how they sincerely shared their literary successes!«
A special contest for the children was prepared, where a prize — a book with author’s autograph — was waiting for the winner, and the participants of the first two presentations of the book in Moscow and at the International Book Fair in Sharjah did not have this opportunity.
«It was very important for us that each of the students was involved in interactive communication with the author and translator, because they can no longer ask Alexander Pushkin any question, and then the writer herself came to the meeting with her readers! Ask what you want! It was great,— Anastasia Ivanova shared her impressions. —It was also surprising how interested they were to listen to Vyacheslav Yeliseyev, the person who translated the book into Russian and made it available to the Russian reader.»
The question-and-answer session and the autograph session went far beyond the allotted time. Al-Yazia Khalifa gave her book to the school library, and the children showed off their bookcrossing shelf. «The presentation was great. The children did not want to let Al-Yazia go. A lot of questions were also for the translator, — said Marina Borisovna Khalikova. — Now we are going to the book exhibition in Abu Dhabi, agreed to meet at the stand Al Fulk Translation and Publishing».
At the end of the event, it was agreed that Job for Arabists and its translation agency «Arabist» will organize and hold a master class «Mastering translation skills» for high school students. And this is just the beginning of a long friendship and interesting cooperation, opening the doors to a world of new opportunities.
